Razor S Sports Scooter

If you're looking for a well built and solid kick scooter at an affordable price for a child aged 6 plus, then the Razor S sports scooter could be the best choice depending on the features you require.

Easy to fold - it's quick and easy to fold the scooter. Razor makes a selling point out of the fact that it can be easily folded down to fit in a bag. It's extremely portable.

Lightweight  - the fact that the scooter is so lightweight which adds to its portability. It only weighs 2.76kg.

Handlebar - the handlebar measures 83cm. Ideally, the handlebar height on a scooter should be between hip and waist height. 83cm is probably a good height for most 6, 7 and 8 year olds. However, the handlebar isn't height adjustable which means that the Razor will have a shorter life span than the Micro Sprite which has an adjustable handlebar.

Wheels - the wheels are 98mm and made of urethane which is a good material for scooter wheels.

Frame - the frame and deck are made of aluminum which is a strong yet lightweight material

Longevity - the Razor S sport is built to be durable and sturdy. It is a good scooter that should withstand the abuse kids put it through as long as it is used for its recommended use (which is a kick scooter rather than a stunt scooter).

However, the lack of an adjustable handlebar might be a negative for some people. Other scooters with height adjustable handlebars accommodate children of different heights so last longer.  Older kids get to a point where the handlebar will be too short for them to use.

Verdict - This scooter gives great bank for your buck. It's a good buy for the 6 to 10 year age group.

Micro Sprite Scooter (Classic Version)

The Micro Sprite scooter (classic version) is a quality build that has been designed to last. This scooter can accommodate kids from age 5 to 12 and is recommended for children between 110cm and 152cm. The scooter requires a bigger outlay but if looked after it can last years. Therefore, even though it's more expensive, it could save you money in the long run.

Easy to fold - Like the Razor scooter, the Micro is quick and easy to fold.

Weight - It weighs the same as the Razor at 2.7kg, so is light for smaller kids to carry and manoeuvre. They will have no problems carrying either scooter up a few steps or up and down kerbs.

Handlebar - The major advantage that the Sprite has over the Razor is that the handlebar is height adjustable. The telescopic handlebar can be adjusted at any point between 64cm to 93cm, so you can find the perfect height for your child. It also allows the Micro Sprite to accommodate a much wider age range. It states from 5 to 12 but actually, the highest handlebar height will allow many teens and some adults to hop on and have a go as long as they are under the weight limit of 100kg. Having said this, I wouldn't recommend the Sprite as an adult scooter - they may have to stoop over, especially if they're tall!

Wheels - the Micro Sprite has ABEC bearings and two 87A polyurethane wheels, which means the wheels are durable, solid and give a smooth, comfortable ride. The wheels are 120mm so slightly bigger than the wheels on the Razor. This is better as they will last longer (they won't wear down as fast). Bigger wheels also give a smoother ride over cracks and bumps in the pavement.

Designed to last - Another huge advantage of the Sprite is that it has been engineered and designed to last. Each key part is easily be repaired or replaced. Therefore, the scooter should last a lifetime. It can be passed down to friends or siblings or be resold secondhand once finished with.
This makes the scooter more eco friendly than other scooters which are likely to end up in the landfill when wheels or other parts need replacing.

Kickstand - the scooter has a kickstand so you can stand it up wherever you want to. Stand it up when you visit friend's or go to the park. A kickstand can also help prevent scratching the paintwork as you won't be leaning it against walls.

Verdict - the Micro Sprite scooter is an excellent choice for children of all ages. It’s foldable, lightweight and has an adjustable handlebar that can be set at the perfect height. It gives a smooth, comfortable ride. It will set you back a bit but it’s can last for years if looked after. What’s not to like?

Razor or the Sprite - which to get?

If budget is a big consideration, the Razor may be the only option. And you get a lot for your money. A sturdy, well designed scooter that is strong but lightweight and able to stand up to the abuse that kids often put things through. However, if money is no object or you can afford to splurge out a little, the Sprite is an excellent choice. It’s difficult to go wrong with a Micro scooter as one thing you can be sure of is a quality build (there’ll be no rattling with their scooters). The Sprite can last a childhood and potentially longer if taken care of properly.

3 Wheel Scooters for Older Children

3 Wheel Scooters for Older Children

3 wheel scooters are becoming popular with older children for many reasons. Some children prefer the stability of being on 3 wheels. Other children may have dyspraxia or other conditions, which means they prefer using 3 wheels.

The good news is there are many options of 3 wheel scooters for the older age group.

The scooters below are 3 wheel scooters designed for older children from around aged 5 or 6 to 14 years old.

✔️ Top Tip - When choosing a scooter the handlebar should be adjustable so that it is around hip to waist height on the rider. A handlebar which is too low or a too high makes the scooter very difficult to control.

Maxi Micro Deluxe Scooter (5 to 12 years)

N/A

The Micro Maxi Deluxe is a high quality, 3 wheel scooter with outstanding construction and design. It's smooth, agile and quiet, making it a joy to ride. A telescopic height-adjustable handlebar ensures the perfect height for kids of all ages up to 12 years or a height of 152cm.

There are several versions of the Maxi Micro. The version featured above has a chopper style handlebar and wider wheels.

Long Lasting
One of the things I love about Micro scooters is that all their parts are repairable and replaceable, keeping scooters out of the landfill and on the road. You can pass it onto younger siblings or sell it second hand when finished with.

Age Recommendation
It's designed for kids aged 5 to 12 years old who are between 110cm and 152cm tall. If your child is towards the end of this range, also check out the Globber scooters and the 3 wheel Micro kickboard scooter further on in this article (the handlebars on these scooters extend even higher than the Micro Maxi)

Adjustable Handlebar
You can adjust the chopper handlebar at any point between 72cm to 91cm. It's super easy and quick to adjust with a quick-release clamp. Ideally, the handlebar should adjust to around waist height on the rider. The lowest height setting of 72cm will be fine for small children. Likewise, the highest handlebar setting of 91cm is fine for many 12 year olds. Micro constructed the bar with anodised aluminium, protecting against wear and tear. The chopper handlebars give great control and support balance.

The Ride
The high quality PU wheels measure 120mm at the front and 80mm at the rear, giving a smooth and quiet roll along the pavement. There's no rattling on the Maxi Micro! Kids control the scooter by leaning to steer, so you lean to turn left and right. This allows them to "surf the sidewalk", making the ride is quick and agile. The scooter is super light at just 2.9kg making it easy to control. It's also a doddle to pick up and carry to the top of a steep hill or up a flight of stairs.

Safety is paramount on the Micro Maxi Deluxe. It features a raised silicone Micro branded deck which improves grip. A substantial rear brake makes it easy and quick to stop without scuffing shoes.

Is it foldable?
The Maxi Micro Deluxe featured above isn't foldable. However, you can remove the bar from the base for easy transportation and storage. If a folding scooter is important to you, there is another version of the Maxi Micro that folds (#amazon affiliate link)

Are there any other upgrades?
You can upgrade the foldable scooter to have LED wheels too.

Verdict:

Best for - This is a great scooter for all age ranges. Its low handlebar setting accommodates younger, smaller children and the highest handlebar height many tall children. It is lightweight and built to last so it's difficult to go wrong. You won't need to buy another 3 wheel scooter for your child.

Not ideal for - those on a tight budget.

✔️ Top Tip - Lightweight scooters can be advantageous. They are easy to carry and easy for younger, smaller children to control. For example, it's easier for them to lift up and down steps and kerbs.

Globber Master Scooter (4 to 14  years)

N/A

The Globber Master scooter is suitable for kids aged 4 to 14 who are under the 50kg weight limit.

Adjustable Handlebar

The wide adjustable t-bar can be set at 5 different height setting, starting at 74cm and reaching up to 94cm. It's easily foldable with a safe and easy-to-use side push button. This makes transporting the scooter a breeze when you need to.

Deck

The extra wide deck topped with soft anti-slip EVA foam makes riders feel stable and comfortable. An extra-long composite rear brake add to a child's safety as they ride.

Steering Lock Button

There's a steering lock button. When pressed in means the scooter can only go forwards and backwards. This is helpful when kids start scooting as they just have to concentrate on moving in a straight line before worrying about steering.

Wheels

High quality PU casted 120mm front wheels and an 80mm back wheel ensure a smooth ride along the pavement. Super soft dual-colour PR handlebar grips also add to the comfort while scooting.

Globber has become a household name in the scooter world and this is just one of their many offerings. Perfect to see kids scooting until their teenage years.

3 Style Scooters (5 to 8 years)

N/A

The 3styles RGS2 scooter is recommended for children age 5 to 8 years old with a weight capacity of up to 50kg. It's much cheaper than the Maxi Micro so a good option if you're on a budget. Although the handlebar doesn't extend to as high as the Maxi Micro scooter so it won't last kids as long.

Handlebar

The handlebar has 5 adjustable height settings which are 52cm, 72cm, 76cm and 80cm. This should accommodate most kids in the recommended age range (and perhaps a bit younger too). The handlebar is foldable, making the 3style scooter easy to transport and store.

Weight of Scooter

The scooter weighs 3.5kg so it's not as light as the Maxi Micro scooter but still should be fine to carry when needed.

Steering
There is an easy glide, tilt to lean steering system. Kids lean to go left and right to change direction.

Wheels

The PU wheels offer a smooth ride and features LED lights that light up as the wheel spins. Great for being seen on dark evenings. They don't need charging or batteries to work. The front wheels measure 120mm and the back 80mm double wheel offers stability when riding.

Longevity

The handlebar only extends up to 80cm (which is 13cm less than the Maxi Micro), so it will be fine for most kids up to 8 years old (and maybe a bit older - it will depend on how tall your child is). You can measure your child and see how high 80cm will be against their body. Ideally, you want the handlebar to come up to around waist height as this is the most comfortable. height when scooting.

You can get some replacement parts for this scooter, such as wheels and hand grips. This helps keep the scooter on the road for longer if these parts need replacing. However, unfortunately not every part can be replaced like on the Maxi Micro.

Verdict

Overall, if you are on a budget and looking for a scooter for the 5 plus age group, this is a good choice. Kids love the LED light up wheels and there are 6 bright colours to choose from too.

Globber Ultimum (age 5 to adult)

N/A

The Globber Ultimum scooter's unique selling point is its longevity. Amazingly it adjusts up to 101cm high. It will last most kids well into their teenage years. And adults can also hop on and have a go.

Height adjustable handlebar

It has a 6 height adjustable t-bar from 76cm to 101cm, which suits kids from aged 5 up to adults who are under the weight limit of 100kg.

Steering

One of its unique features is a patented adjustable steering angle control system. In simple terms, you turn a dial to make the turning circles tighter or looser. It allows you to adjust the steering to suit the rider.

The deck and foldability

For safety, there's an extra wide deck with anti-slip grips.

There's also a patented, elliptic folding system. Easily fold it down into trolley mode where you can pull it along (or carry it if you prefer).

Wheels

Finally, extra wide 125mm PU cast wheels to ensure a speedy, comfortable and safe ride.

Choose this scooter if adults want to have a go as well!

Yvolution Y Glider Nua Scooter

N/A

The Yvolution Y Glider Nua is a beautifully designed 3 wheel scooter for kids aged 3 to 10 years old. Unique features make it an outstanding scooter that is unlike any others.

Height adjustable

You can adjust the handlebar to 3 different heights, with the lowest being 62cm and a top height of 85cm.

Dockable

The scooter comes with an accessory slot which allows it to be hung onto the wall, keeping the Y Glider Nua off the ground. It’s fantastic for storing in small places. You can keep it behind the door!

The Ride

The 120mm front wheels and 100mm rear wheel are extra wide and roll smoothly, ensuring a comfortable and speedy ride. The wheels have LED lights. However, the lights aren’t as visible as LED wheels on other scooters so don’t purchase this scooter just for the light up wheels. An extra wide deck with high grip rubber offers extra stability when riding. No worries about slipping! A rear brake ensures easy stopping.

Design

The Nua has a smooth design with no sharp edges or visible screws for safety reasons. Y Glider Nua is the winner of the 2020 Good Design Award.

Folding Mechanism

The smart design of the folding mechanism allows you to quickly fold the scooter without the worry of little fingers being trapped. Just touch a button and fold into place.

Trolley Mode

Once folded your child can easily pull the scooter behind them wherever they go for extra portability.

Verdict:
Best For:
The age recommendation is pretty spot on with the scooter. It’s good for kids from age 3 up to age 10
Not Ideal for - Taller 10 year olds. Although it will suit most 10 year olds, it may not be long until they grow out of the scooter. If you’re buying for a 10 year old and want some growing room, look for a scooter with a slightly higher handlebar setting.
✔️ Top Tip - 120mm are slightly bigger than standard sized 100mm wheels on two wheel scooters but bigger wheels will give a smoother ride over bumps and cracks in the pavement.

Boldcube Scooter

N/A

The eye catching Boldcube 3 wheel scooter with bright, colourful light up wheels, will definitely make riders stand out from the crowd.

Height Recommendation

The Boldcube 3 wheel scooter is recommended for kids aged between 6 and 10 years and in the height range of 75cm to 135cm. The handlebar can be adjusted to 5 different heights, 65cm, 70cm, 76cm, 83cm and 89cm.

Foldable

It features an easy fold design. In just 2 steps, fold down the scooter to fit it in the car boot,  on your buggy, in the corner of a cafe or wherever you need to store it.

Wheels

Large 135mm front wheels add stability. The advantage of having bigger wheels is that they go further in a shorter amount of time. Larger wheels also go over small bumps and cracks in the pavement more easily. The wheels also light up when scooting.

Deck

The brightly coloured wide deck is 13cm across at the widest point. This gives kids lots of stability when scooting.

Weight and Steering

The scooter weighs 3.2kg so is fine to carry when needed. It has a lean to steer steering mechanism, so lean in the direction you want to turn.

Micro Scooters Kickboard Scooter

The Micro Kickboard is a 3 wheel scooter aimed at ages 12 plus and adults. It's a unique scooter, as it has interchangeable handlebars. Scoot freely and quickly with the joystick handle or take full control with the traditional t-bar handle.

Another option of 3 wheel scooter for older children are tri scooters, also known as flickr or caster scooters.

The Homcom works by sliding your feet, twisting your hips and moving from side to side propel the scooter forwards. The scooter allows the rider to propel forward without ever having to pedal or touch the ground, a low-impact exercise.

It's ideal for use on smooth flat surfaces.

It's great for building strength on legs, body coordination and balance.

Top 10 Electric Scooters For Kids Reviews

Best 10 Electric Scooter for Kids Reviews

If you are buying an electric scooter for a child, than the age you are buying for will be very important. Younger kids will want a scooter with lower speeds to make sure that they are safe. Older kids, teens and adults will want more powerful scooters.

Do you know about twist grip acceleration, expected battery life, the best deck size and the top speeds you should be aiming for? As well as recommendations of electric scooters by age there are also top tips on what to consider when buying an electric scooter.

Best Value Electric Scooter

Razor E90: Recommended Age: 8 Years Old

This Razor Scooter is aimed for kids age 8 plus. However, there are 6 and 7 year olds that can used this scooter, so parents can use their own judgement as to whether the scooter is appropriate for their child.

Speed

It reaches speeds of  up to 10 mph. If they ride a bike, they may very well go faster than this electric scooter when riding a bike so that gives you a benchmark as to the speed of scooter. For young kids, you don't really want them travelling much more quickly than 10mph even if they are mini adrenaline seekers.

Kids will need to get the scooter up to 3mph to kick start the motor. Then press the push button throttle to accelerate further. The push button is easy for kids to use.

Wheels

The urethane wheels are puncture proof and work well on smooth flat surfaces. Air filled tyres are better for older, heavier kids as they will provide a more cushioned ride. But for younger, smaller riders the urethane wheels should be sufficient.

Motor

The hub motor has been designed to be maintenance free unlike the chain driven motors on other Razor scooters. No alignment no chain, and no chain tensioner on the E90.

Battery

The Razor E90 gives about 70 minutes of continuous use on one charge. On the downside, it takes about 12 hours to fully charge the battery.

Brake

There's a hand operated front brake for easy braking.

Razor Power Core E100 Electric Scooter

The Power core E100 is also aimed at kids from aged 8 and goes up to 11mph.

It does differ somewhat in comparison to the Razor Power Core E90. The frame height and width is slightly bigger. It has a twist throttle on the handlebar rather than a push button throttle. It has a slightly higher maximum weight ride at 54kg.

It has up to 60 minutes continuous ride time which is a long battery life compared to other kids electric scooters.

It features a 8 inch pneumatic front tyre and a urethane rear.

Segeway Zing A6 (Great for Younger Kids)

The Segway Ninebot is an awesome choice of entry level electric scooter for young kids from aged 6. It can last them up to 10 years old.  The excellent features include short charging time, lightweight and a top speed of 12km/h (7.5mph).

Ride and Speed

The scooter has 3 gears:

First Gear - Start off slow and steady. The maximum speed is 8km/h (5mph). Kids kick until they reach 8km/h and then the Zing A6 will ride by itself.  The first gear is great for kids just starting out or younger kids who don't want to go too fast.

Second Gear - The scooter reaches speeds of 10km/h (6.2mph)

Third Gear - when they feel confident enough kids can glide at the top speed of up to 12km/h (7.5 mph).

Battery Life

The battery has a charge time of just 3.5 hours and a range of approximately 5km (3.1 miles) on one charge. However, the battery life on all scooters is always affected by weight of the rider, gradient and terrain the scooter is ridden on.

Tyres

The Zinc A6 has a 5-inch PU perfusion front tyre and a 4-inch solid rubber rear tyre. The front tyre is made with a softer material that offers more comfort to the rider. The rear tyre has been redesigned for better grip and anti-skid performance.

Braking

A easy to use rear fender brake will slowly bring kids to a stop. Just step on the brake for a couple of seconds to activate it.

Lightweight and Foldable

The scooter is superlight and weighs only 4.6kg. This makes it a doddle to pick up and transport in the boot of a car.

Lights

Kids are going to love the light up features on the Zinc. Ambient lights are always shining on the footboard while the Zinc is on. In addition, the front wheel lights up when rolling.

Electric Scooter for Kids Ages 6-12

Designed for kids aged 6 years and above, this electric scooter has an adustable handlebar, fast charging, a top speed of 6mph and can be used as both a pedal scooter and a kick scooter.

It's not the speediest of electric scooters making it a good choice for younger kids just starting out.

Kids will need to kick start the scooter. Once kids get the scooter up to 3 miles, they can then step on the sensor which is on the footplate to start the motor and accelerate up to 6 mph. It has a max range of 6.3mph. The range will be dependent on weight of the rider and the terrain they are scooting on.

The light up deck and front wheel is a popular feature with kids. It shines brightly and changes colour.

Three level height adjustments on the handlebar can be set at 74cm, 80cm and 86cm so the scooter will grow with your child.

Megawheels Electric Scooter

The Megawheels is speedy scooter with a height adjustable handlebar that's a good choice for older kids who want a quick scooter.

Handlebar and Age Recommendation

With a 3 level height adjustable handlebar which can be set at 76cm, 86cm and 96cm, Megawheels recommend their scooter for kids aged 10 plus.

The main reason for the higher age recommendation is the scooter can reach speeds of up to 14mph which is pretty fast. Definitely a bit quick for younger kids. Having said this, the top speed will be affected by the weight of the rider and terrain they are riding on. A heavier rider going up hill will go much more slowly. It's worth noting the scooter can handle hills with a 15% gradient (many electric scooters for kids can't handle hills at all)

There is no variable speed on the Megawheels scooter. So if you are scooting along quickly you have to brake to stop, you can't slow down.

Light and Portable

The scooter weight of 8kg is light for an electric scooter. It's foldable too, so it's easy to transport on buses and trains or in the car.

Other Features

The scooter has a solid 6" front tyre and 5" back tyre so you won't get a puncture ever!   It takes 2 to 3 hours to charge which is super quick compared to some other scooters. Kids can choose to stop with the handlebar brake or the rear brake on the back wheel.

Finally, an LED tailight helps them to be seen.

Electric Scooter with Top Speed of 12mph

Razor E200

This Razor E200 has a recommended age of 13 years and above. Having said this, there are reviews of much younger children using this scooter, so again it really is down to individual judgement as the age group the scooter is suitable for.

It has a bigger frame than the E100,  a good size for older children around about 11 and 12 years old.

It's features include a rechargeable 24V battery which allows the scooter to go up to speeds of up to 12mph / 19km/h. Like the E100, the charge time is lengthy, with approximately 12 hours required.

It's easy to operate with a twist-grip acceleration control and a hand operated rear brake. The scooter has one speed, and no variable acceleration.

No kick start is required. Hop on the scooter and off you go!

The E200 has two 8 inch pneumatic tyres (as opposed to just the front wheel on the E100) so offers a smooth and comfortable ride. Although it's not really designed for off road, the air filled tyres will give a more cushioned ride over uneven surfaces when needed. It has an all steel frame and fork and a high-torque chain driven motor

Budget Electric Scooter

Homcom Kids Electric Scooter

If you're looking for a budget choice, the Homcom is one of the least expensive electric scooters on the market. Despite it's low price, it has some nice features which includes a foldable handlebar, adjustable height and durable frame. It's aimed at kids between 7 and 14 years old who are under the maximum weight capacity of 50kg.

Speed and ride

One place you may compromise with this scooter is the speed. If you're looking for a speedy scooter, there are better choices. It has a maximum speed of 7.5mph (12 km/h) - the lowest maximum speed of all the scooter on this page. However this is good for younger kids and riders who aren't bothered about going super fast.

There is a hand operated brake for easy stopping.

The wheels are solid and airless so you may feel bumps of the terrain when riding the scooter.

When you need to stop, use the handy kickstand so you don't need to lay your scooter on the floor.

Battery

It has a range of 8 to 10km with a charge time of between 5 and 8 hours.

Adjustable height.

There are height adjustments between 73cm and 91cm, so it can be adjusted to the optimum height for your child.

Overall it's a budget electric scooter. It won't last forever but it's a fun choice for  kids.

The scooter is powered by a chain driven motor an 80w high-torque motor and the 140mm PU wheels offer a quick, smooth ride.

Young adventurers will find it easy to use with twist 'n' go grip acceleration, a fully printed, anti-slip footplate and a reactive rear footbrake and handbrake for responsive stopping power.  And use the spring kick-stand for easy storage and when taking a break!

Buying A Kid's Electric Scooter - A Guide To Features and Specs

Tyres

Electric scooters will have either urethane or pneumatic tyres. Urethane wheels are fine for lighter use and for younger children but older kids and adults will definitely require pneumatic tyres to give them more tread when riding, provide a smoother ride and to take the extra weight. However, pneumatic tyres will cost more.

Urethane wheels will only be suitable for use on smooth surfaces such as pavements but they won't puncture. If you intend to use the scooter for long commutes or for use off road, choose a scooter with pneumatic tyres.

Battery Life and Charge Time

Batteries on electric scooters for kids have traditionally been lead acid batteries that you will see on most Razor electric scooters. The downside to the lead acid batteries is that they are generally heavy - adding weight to the scooters.

However, more recently electric scooters for kids have used lithium-ion batteries, which are lighter and more energy dense. They don't need as long to charge and have good longevity. However, they will be more expensive which is why the faster kids scooters such as the Razor E300 still tend to use a lead acid battery. The more powerful lithium ion batteries will cost a lot more than a lead acid battery.

Lead acid batteries take much longer to charge than lithium-ion batteries.

Ride Time

The average ride time on a scooter varies from around 40 to 60 minutes. Most scooters offer a ride time of at least 40 minutes on one charge. However, the ride time will depend on a variety of factors such as the weight of the scooter rider. The heavier the rider, the quicker the battery will drain. Also the terrain will affect the ride time. A battery will always last longer on smooth and flat terrain compared to inclines and uneven paths.

Different factors will affect the ride times on each charge. Razor have developed a hub motor on their range of power core electric scooters for kids. This has doubled the ride time on one charge on many of their scooters with the power core E90 and E100 having around 60 minutes continuous ride time on one charge.

A Retractable Kickstand

A retractable kickstand is extremely useful. This will allow you to stand the scooter up when not in use.

Kick Start

Many scooters require a kick start of around 3mph before the electric motor starts. Some require less and some scooters don’t require any kick start for the motor to work. Kids shouldn't have any trouble getting a scooter up to 3mph. Generally it's just a few kicks of pushing power.

Speed

The speed of the most common and popular electric scooters for kids tend to range from 5mph to 15mph. The speeds advertised tend to be the top speeds a scooter will reach in optimum conditions with smooth, flat surfaces to ride and with a lighter rider.

Push Button Vs Twist Acceleration

Some scooters feature a button which will start and stop the electric scooter. whereas others have twist grip acceleration.

A push button may be easier for younger kids to control and get used to whereas older children may prefer the feel of twist grip acceleration. Many electric scooters for kids only offer one speed whether they have a twist grip acceleration or a push button. However, some electric scooters offer variable speed with the twist grip acceleration. These tend to be higher end models.

Maximum Weight

Pay careful consideration to the maximum weight of the rider. Some scooters have a fairly low weight limit so will only be suitable for children. The weight limit of the scooter may also affect the length of time your child will be able to use the scooter too.

Brakes

Scooters should either have a hand brake or a foot brake to slow down

Purpose

Why are you buying the scooter, the purpose will very much affect the one you choose. If you are buying for a child, factors such as fun, safety and battery life will be most important. However, many people now use electric scooters for the commute to and from work or via a train station. Therefore considerations will relate to top speeds, battery life, the weight of the scooter (will you have to carry it on public transport?) or whether or not to have a seated scooter will affect the decisions of which ones to buy.

Built In Light

If you are choosing a scooter for the commute another feature you may want to consider is a built in light so you can see where you are going in the dark evenings. Some have just a front light. Others feature a rear one too

Seat or No Seat

Some electric scooters designed for commuting also feature a seat for extra comfort. Others have the option of removing the seat. Check out some electric scooters with seats for kids.

Cost

Obviously the amount you pay will have to be weighed up into consideration to the features the scooter has. When looking at the price of the scooter make sure you have the best features for the money you are paying

Foldable

Some electric scooters have the capacity to fold. This makes them easier to transport and store. It's also useful when you want to transport the scooter in the car boot and if you want to they could be taken on a train or bus as well.
