Mini Micro Vs Maxi Micro Scooter. Which One?

So you’ve decided to get your child a 3 wheel scooter and like the mini or maxi micro. However you are not sure which one to get.
Officially the mini micro is designed for kids aged 3 to 5 and the maxi micro is for kids aged 5 to 10. However, if your child is tall or 4 1/2 or 5 you may actually be better going for the maxi micro scooter as the mini micro won’t last your child very long.
This article will help you make up your mind which one to choose.

Handlebar Height

Height adjustable handlebars can be found on both scooters. The lowest height on the maxi micro scooter is about 4cm bigger than the handlebar height on the mini. The mini measures approximately 68cm from the ground to the top of the handlebar and the maxi micro with chopper handlebars about 72cm on it’s lowest setting. Ideally you want the scooter handlebar to come up around waist height on your child.

The maxi micro is height adjustable from approximately 72m to 91cm so should last your child for years. It is designed for kids that are 3ft 7in (110cm) to 5ft (152cm) in height.

The mini micro’s handlebar is designed for kids between 3ft – 3ft, 7in (98 – 110cm), for children between 2 and 5 years.

Weight

Both scooters are lightweight but the mini micro is quite a bit light at just 1.8 kg compared to 2.9 kg. Young children will find it easier to learn to scoot with a lighter scooter as lightweight scooters are easier to pick up and control. The mini is specifically designed be extra lightweight to suit the needs of 3 to 5 year olds.

Deck

The deck is longer on the maxi micro scooter (33cm compared to 30cm) and wider (13cm compared to 11cm) to accommodate a taller child. Both decks are low to the ground so easy for younger children to get on and off.

Price

The mini micro is considerably less expensive than the maxi micro scooter. However, the maxi scooter will last a lot longer (at least until your child is around 10), so in the long run if you buy one scooter over a number of years it will be better value for money. Both scooters have quite a good resale value if you keep them in good condition. Therefore, buying a mini micro scooter for a short time may be a good financial decision if you sell it for a decent price afterwards.

Maximum Weight Capacity

The maximum weight capacity is 50kg (7stone 2 pounds) on the maxi and 35kg ( (3 stone, 2 pounds) on the mini.

What Else You Need To Know

Both the mini and maxi share many features too.

Both have a lean and steer scooting style. Lean left to go left and right to go right. The handlebars do not control the steering like they do on other scooters. This may mean it’s easier for children to move onto the maxi once they have mastered using the micro as a younger child.

Long lasting – these scooters have been designed to last. The polyurethane wheels will not wear away. And if you do need to replace a part, the scooter is modular so all parts can be easily replaced without affecting the rest of the scooter.

The handlebar can be removed from the base – this makes it easy to take with you if you are travelling and it can also make it easy to store the scooter long term.
